While Ikea may be best known for its inexpensive home furnishings, the retail giant also offers a large selection of mattresses, including the Sultan Havberg. The Havberg is a basic spring mattress that largely appeals to budget-conscious shoppers. Spring mattressesSpring mattresses offer great support, by distributing your body weight evenly. You won’t feel too warm either, as the open spring construction allows air to circulate. To find your perfect sleeping solution, choose a firm or medium firm mattress, paired with a slatted bed base or mattress base.

The core of the mattress is made up of metal springs, or coils, to support your body. In many spring mattresses, the coils are encased in individual pockets, which offer more contoured support and better movement isolation than connected springs. A comfort layer is added on top of the coils and can be made from a variety of materials, including pillow padding and latex. Spring mattresses range in firmness of the coils and plushness of the comfort layer, so nearly anyone can find a mattress that feels right. They are also extremely affordable, particularly compared to memory foam mattresses. Whether you are in the market for a new pocket-coil mattress or one with continuous springs, here are some key factors to keep in mind to help you choose the best mattress for getting a good night’s sleep.

Coil gauge refers to the thickness and firmness of the coils. Many people mistakenly believe that the total number of coils defines a good mattress, but the gauge of the metal the coils are made from is more important. That’s because coil gauge determines the firmness and overall support of a spring mattress. Coil gauge is measured in quarter increments and the lower the number, the thicker the gauge. Furthermore, the thicker the gauge, the firmer a mattress will be. In addition to coil gauge, you should consider the type of materials used for the upholstered top layer of a spring mattress. While the coils provide support, this comfort layer augments the feel of the mattress, providing further comfort and cushioning. Look for high-quality materials that conform to your body and are layered for extra comfort. The best mattresses are available in a variety of sizes, ranging from twin to California king. Most people change positions frequently in their sleep. Thus, opt for a spring mattress that is big enough for you to move freely for a peaceful and uninterrupted night of sleep.

Warranties on spring mattresses cover manufacturing defects, such as a coil popping out of the mattress. Any mattress you are considering should come with a multi-year warranty that protects against such defects. Purchasing a mattress can be a significant investment, and considering how much time you spend sleeping on it, your mattress should be guaranteed to last for years to come. Since comfort preferences and budget tend to determine the type of mattress you sleep on, no one type of mattress is superior to others. However, a spring mattress can be a smart choice if you’re seeking an affordable mattress that provides your desired level of firmness. Once you find the perfect mattress, you’ll enjoy endless nights of peaceful slumber.I'l try to be as objective as a can in answering your question but the simple answer is, "No." Looking at the Sultan Hagavik model this is a lower profile marshall coil unit that contains only a single border rod and a few layers of 1.8 and 1.5 lb. density foam.

They don't list the thicknesses for the foam or the gauge of the steel for the innerspring unit. Objectively this model isn't something that I would classify or ever represent as premium adult support, and certainly not appropriate for someone with a bad back. The bed will contour to your body, but not due to any advanced design. It simply lacks support. Having seen these beds in person I have a pretty good idea on the quality of construction and methods used, but I'm not writing to disparage the product. IKEA mattresses used to come from Poland, then some were made in Mexico (recalled due to not meeting USA Flame Resistant guidelines). IBC was contracted to make some products for IKEA - not sure where this one comes from, as it's not listed on the web site. You can do so much better from a major brand with better foams, a more advanced innerspring and much better construction. and look under the BEDUCATION section for some really good objective information that will help you select a mattress.

The IKEA mattresses I’ve had were decent but whether or not ones under $300 is worth the money depends on how rested you are over time when you sleep in them. For me, I was a broke college student so anything cheap was good enough for me and no way would I buy a used mattress. However, I found that there are much better mattresses for that price budget.A good mattress is one of the most important things you can buy and since you have a bad back, it’s even more important. If you are going to buy one of the cheaper IKEA mattresses for whatever reason, you can buy one of those mattress toppers that can increase the level of comfort for your mattress. Although, with better mattresses for around the same price range out there, you might as well just buy one of those.Personally, I’d stay away from IKEA when it comes to low price point mattresses but most of their other stuff is great such as sectional sofas, desks, and bed sheets. Those laundry hamper things they sell for under $10 is also awesome.
